HALEY RAMM LEAVES A LASTING IMPRESSION ON HOLLYWOOD!
(By: Bessie Sorge)
Like many of today's young stars, Haley Ramm got her start in showbiz at a young age while growing up in Dallas, Texas. "I started acting when I was six," Haley explains to us. “I took a lot of the classes in Dallas, and I started doing some short films and commercials.” One of the first commercials she booked was for the Hasbro Company.
While Texas provided Haley with some great gigs, she knew that Los Angeles was the platform she needed to jump-start her career as an entertainer. "I had begged my parents to move to L.A. forever - like since I was seven,” Haley confesses. “They wanted to wait until I was old enough to understand the sacrifice." Haley finally convinced her parents when she turned twelve and the family packed their bags and moved to Hollywood.
It didn't take long for this young talented starlet to make a name for herself in Hollywood. Haley quickly booked appearances on television shows such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “Grey’s Anatomy” and in feature films like “Flightplan” and "Yours, Mine and Ours," where she met good friend Miranda Cosgrove. Haley was recently given the opportunity to work with Miranda again landing a guest starring role on the popular Nickelodeon series iCarly.
We caught up with Haley to talk about her upcoming appearance on iCarly, her budding acting career and to find out some of her favorite things!
You recently had a birthday! Happy Belated Birthday!
Thank you.
How did you celebrate turning 17?
I went to Disneyland with my family cause you know their having that “get in free on you birthday”. I took full advantage of that. It was really fun. We spent the whole day there.
You started performing as a dancer at the age of three. Do you still take dance classes?
I don’t take dance classes anymore. I stopped when I was 13, when I moved out here. And I really want to start again, but one of my favorite shows is Dancing With the Stars. I love watching it. And every time I watch it, I always want to take ballroom dance classes. So, I think I should do that soon.
Who is your favorite so far this season?
My favorite this year, let me think, this one’s hard. Oh, I love what’s her name from The Bachelor.
Melissa?
Yes, Melissa. I love watching her and I watched her on The Bachelor too. I like her.
What is your favorite type of music?
Well, my favorite band is O.A.R. I listen to them a lot and I just went to one of their concerts, but I mostly been listening to Haley Clark’s new CD. I was actually just listening right now. It is probably my favorite right now, and also Katy Perry. I like her; she’s so unique and different. I think that’s awesome.
What made you decide to become an actress?
I started acting when I was six and my dad saw this flyer for an acting class and he asked if I wanted to take it. And I always performed when I was little like for my family and my dad was always video taping us dancing and stuff. So, I decided to take the workshop and I loved it and I just wanted to keep going. So I took a lot of the classes in Dallas. And I started doing some short films and commercials and finally I just ran out of stuff to do. So I’d begged my parents to move to L.A. forever, like since I was seven, since I’d first started. And they wanted to wait until I was old enough to understand the sacrifice. So they waited until I was 12.
You have worked with quite a few well-known actors in your career (i.e. Jodie Foster, Sean Penn, Dennis Quaid), do you ever get nervous or star-struck when you are on set with them?
I don’t really get star struck, but I was nervous meeting Sean Penn because for some reason I thought that he was not going to be nice, but I just met him and he was so nice and wonderful to work with.
Who has been your favorite co-star to work with so far?
I really liked working with Jodi Foster a lot, and also Anthony LaPaglia when I was on Without a Trace for a year. He’s great to work with.
What was the best advice that you received about the business from your co-stars?
To never let anything affect you personally, that it’s all selection not rejection, and you can’t let it get to you. I usually give myself like 24 hours if I lose a role that I really wanted, and after 24 hours I can’t think about it anymore.
That’s a good method to go about.
I think so, too.

Let’s talk about your recent appearance on iCarly. Are you a fan of the show?
Yeah, I am a fan of the show and I watch Miranda on it all the time. I always support her.
What was it like working with your friend, Miranda Cosgrove?
It was a lot of fun. I had worked with her in Yours, Mine and Ours and it was nice to work with her again. I’d love to work with her more.
Is that where you met her?
Yes, it is.
What can we expect to see from your character on the show?
She’s really sweet, at first, but she has an evil plot.
Against who?
Against Sam. I don’t want to give too much away.
What was it like working with Jennette McCurdy?
Oh, she’s very nice.
Were there any funny moments behind-the-scenes that you would like to share?
They have this wall behind one of the sets and there are all these pieces of gum and so everybody just sticks their gum on there. If you guest star on the show, you are supposed to leave your gum there. So, that’s pretty funny, except for I forgot to leave a piece of gum there.
You have to go back and leave a piece of gum then.
I know, so next time I’m there, if they ever have me back, I’m going to just stick a piece of gum there.
What is the biggest challenge about filming a television series versus a feature film?
You don’t have as much time, and right when you finish one scene you are on to the next one. I think there is a lot more waiting when you’re doing a film. T.V. is way more, fast paced.
Tell us a little about the new pilot you recently filmed called “The New 20’s.”
It’s a pilot presentation by the same guy who did 8 Simple Rules. His name is Flody Suarez. And it’s a really funny script and I hope that somebody picks it up. Because I thought it was great. Actually the lady who played my mom in it, she is also in Yours, Mine and Ours too. That’s what I love about this business, you run into the same people over and over again.
Have you had any embarrassing moments on any of the sets that you’ve worked on?
When I did an episode on ER one time, I had to wear this like nude suit because I was supposed to be having surgery, so that was a little embarrassing because I had to walk around in a nude suit. And also, the wrestling outfit was pretty embarrassing, but probably more embarrassing for the guys who had to wear them.
Tell us about your involvement with the various charities listed on your website.
Yeah, I work with Ronald McDonald charities a lot and host movie nights there from time to time. So, that’s a lot of fun to show movies and watch them with the kids. I usually bring some friends of mine that are in the movies that we’re showing so that they can meet them.
Have you ever rescued an animal from the German Shepherd shelter that you have listed?
I haven’t, but I really want to though. It’s like my dream to have a German Shepherd. I think when I move out and I’m living on my own, I’m going to have a German Shepherd to protect me, but if you can convince my mom to get one.
You have quite a fan sites out there, how do you feel about fans making websites about you now?
I think it’s nice that they’re doing that. I like to go on them from time to time to see what’s on there.
So, do you visit them frequently?
I do. I think everyone Google’s themselves. I’ll admit it.
