KELLI BERGLUND TALKS TO HTZ ABOUT LAB RATS, HER CHARACTER, AND MORE! By: JAM
In Disney XD's newest hit series Lab Rats, young actress Kelli Berglund plays the part of the innocent super speedstress Bree, one of three bionic super powered siblings alongside Billy Unger as Chase and Spencer Boldman as Adam. Their lives change when their creator's new stepson Leo (played by Tyrel Jackson Williams) finds his new siblings and starts exposing them to the real world of high school.
HTZ had the chance to learn more about Kelli as she gave us a look into her life, her show, and the rest of the cast in this chat below. And check out the video at the end of our chat as we had the chance to meet Kelli at Ooh! La, La! Couture's Tutus4Tots and were able to find out a little more.
Hi Kelli, could you tell our readers a little about yourself?
Hey Hollywood Teen'Zine readers, I'm Kelli Berglund from the new Disney XD show "Lab Rats." I'm 16 years old and I'm surrounded by a caring family who I absolutely love and adore. I've been a dancer for 12 years and an actress for about 6 years. In the future, I hope to still be acting because this is something I am very passionate about.
Can you tell us a little bit about Lab Rats?
Lab Rats is about my two bionic brothers and I discovering what it's like to be normal teenagers. We were created by a billionaire inventor and have lived in a high-tech underground lab our entire lives. We each have our own unique powers, mine being super speed and agility. Our creator gets married and now has a new step-son, Leo. Leo discovers us and secretly takes us out into the real world; beginning with school. We're slightly out of control, since we don't know how normal kids act. Eventually, our inventor allows for us to experience life as normal teenagers, but while hiding our bionic powers. We go through the ups and downs of life as one big family.
Can you describe your character Bree for us? What has been your favorite scene to film as Bree so far?
My character, Bree, is extremely outgoing and fun. However, she also has a tough side to her. She's lived with bionic brothers her whole life, so she's had to live up to their standards. Also, she can kick some serious butt since she has bionic powers! When she's in the real world, she discovers that as a teenage girl, she has to keep up with certain trends and act like every other girl. She becomes a little insecure since she feels like an outcast, but eventually she adjusts to her new life. The rest of her family keeps her on track as well. I think my favorite scene to film so far has been a huge fight scene with my two bionic brothers. I was able to show off my athleticism, and even some cool flips. It really showed how tough Bree can be.
What advice do you have for tweens/teens that would like to get into the entertainment industry?
My advice to aspiring actors is to always believe in yourself. Have confidence in whatever you do and always give 110%. If the right role doesn't come to you right away, give it some time! The opportunity will come when it's meant to be. Remember, it took me 6 years!
If you had a super power, what power would you choose?
If I had a real-life super power, I'd want to be able to read minds or be invisible. Both are super-sneaky yet totally awesome, don't you think?

We had noted you have a strong background in dance. What forms of dance do you enjoy the most? How long have you studied dance?
Dance is something that is a huge part of my life and is also a passion of mine. I've been a dancer for 12 years, and the older I grow, the more I realize how much I love it. I think my favorite style would have to be contemporary. It's a newer type of style, but it mixes styles of jazz and ballet and usually involves telling a story. It really captivates an audience.
Have you been able to utilize your dance skills on the show whether in stunts, choreography, or actual dance scenes?
I actually have been able to incorporate my dancing abilities a little bit. In the episode titled "Leo's Jam," I get to show off some cool spins and dance moves! Also, I've had to participate in several fight scenes. The athleticism I've built through dancing has been able to help me perform kicks and punches.
We have heard you are a triple threat as a singer as well. Who are your biggest musical influences? How long have you been training vocally? Do you play any musical instruments?
Singing is also a passion of mine. I've trained for about 4 years, and I still have vocal lessons every couple of weeks. I don't play any musical instruments, but I've started learning some tunes on the guitar and piano. My biggest musical influence is either Adele or Taylor Swift. I enjoy their styles of music and I hope that one day, I'll have their vocal strength.
What is your favorite genre of music to sing? What is your favorite Radio Disney song right now?
My favorite genre of music to sing is alternative music or pop music. I love a song that can be carried out just by an acoustic guitar, or songs that make me want to get up and dance! My favorite Radio Disney song right now is definitely "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. She's an up and coming singer and I really enjoy her music.
What are your top three songs on your iPod and what is your favorite song to dance to?
Top three songs on my iPod: "Talk That Talk" (Rihanna), "Paradise" (Coldplay), "Call Me Maybe" (Carly Rae Jepsen). My favorite song to dance to is "We Found Love" by Rihanna.

Now for the fashion questions. What colors or patterns do you see being hot for spring and summer?
For spring and summer, I definitely see yellow and teal as huge trends! They're super fun and happy colors and I've noticed many people wearing them a lot lately. I also think lace is going to be hot this season.
Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
My favorite places to shop are Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. I also enjoy going to a little boutique in my hometown called Blush Boutique.
What are some of your favorite accessories to wear?
Right now, I've really been into big, dangly earrings and bold necklaces. I've been trying to incorporate them into my daily outfits!
We saw you just turned 16. How did you celebrate your sweet sixteenth birthday? What was your most memorable gift?
My 16th birthday was full of fun and excitement! To celebrate, I took the cast of Lab Rats out to dinner at City Walk. It was fun to celebrate with my best friends and their families. My most memorable gift was a beautiful silver bracelet given to me by Spencer. It really meant a lot to me.

Spencer Boldman had mentioned in a previous Hollywood Teen’Zine interview that he feared the Jessie cast attacking Lab Rats with their marshmallow guns. Has this happened, or has there been other pranks played on you by the Jessie cast or vice versa?
I had that fear as well! But no, they ended up not attacking us with marshmallow guns. Our cast and the Jessie cast never played pranks on each other, but I think our cast might be planning something for the A.N.T. Farm cast... who knows! Shhh don't tell them!
We’ve heard you are close friends with Olivia Holt and that Kickin’ It films nearby. Do you get the chance to hang out during breaks with the cast, or have there been any fun pranks or stories you can share about times with Kickin’ It?
Olivia Holt and I are really good friends, and we hang out all the time whether it be on or off set. Sometimes on our lunch breaks we'll give a quick visit to each other, or when we're done filming, we'll stop and say hi on one of our sets.
While we’re talking about pranks, does the Lab Rats cast tend to prank each other? Can you share a fun story with our readers?
The Lab Rats cast is always pranking one another! Spencer is probably the biggest prankster out of all of us. On a rehearsal day during lunch, I was hanging out with Billy and Tj and was heading back to my dressing room to practice my lines for the next scene. I opened the door to find my ENIRE dressing room turned up-side-down! The couch was on its side, the table was flipped over, a plant in the corner was knocked down, and everything else was out of place. I knew exactly who had done it... SPENCER!
Can you give me three words (phrases) to describe Billy Unger?
Fun, hard-worker, talented
Can you give me three words (phrases) to describe Spencer Boldman?
Hilarious, loving, loyal
Can you give me three words (phrases) to describe Tyrel Jackson Williams?
Crazy, huggable, friendly
We recommend checking out Lab Rats on Disney XD with repeats on the Disney Channel as well. And check out what Kelli had to share with HTZ below!
