After spending the last few years working on their individual acting careers, Aly Michalka finally reunites on-screen with her real-life sister AJ Michalka tonight on a brand-new episode of Hellcats.  AJ has joined the cast as Dierdre, the mysterious girl who works in the music store that Marti visits.

In the last episode, Marti discovered new information about her father that caused her to feel a deep personal connection to him that she never imaged she could feel.  But when Wanda refuses to discuss the past with her daughter, it immediately sends Marti into lawyer mode as she begins to research information about her father on her own.  The storyline picks back up tonight where we find Marti visiting the store her deceased father's guitar picks came from.  There she meets a young girl named Deidre who helps Marti unravel another piece of information about her deceased father.

We sat down with Aly & AJ, who are musically known as 78 Violet, to find out what we can expect from the final five episodes of the season, three of which will feature AJ.  Catch an all-new episode of Hellcats tonight on The CW, immediately following One Tree Hill.

The two of you grew up working on music and doing several acting projects together, but in recent years both of you have worked on separate projects (Secretariat, The Lovely Bones, Easy A, The Roommate, Bandslam).  How did it feel to reunite together on-screen for Hellcats?

AJ:  My gosh, it was really cool.  Aly and I haven't done anything theatrically together for a while.  We've always done music together, but the acting thing has been off and on.  And we've never really done anything that was mature like Hellcats, or (a project that) had a little more depth to it.  We've always done younger things because, at the time, we were a younger age.  So, it wasn't really like we were at our acting peak yet; we were just goofing around as sisters and taking our work seriously, but it was more like projects that were fun and cute. This is more like an actual well-established show that is really well written, really well directed, and Aly and I are really lucky that we are on it together. Honestly, I was so blessed that I was even added to the cast as a recurring (character).  I am having a blast.

It is interesting how this character evolved from a discussion Aly had with Kevin Murphy about how much she misses her sister.  Can you tell us about that story?

ALY:  It was interesting.  Kevin Murphy knew about AJ's work and had met her very briefly.  I was just talking about how I missed her and that I wish that I could see her more.  Kevin was kind of overhearing my conversation - he was sitting in one of the chairs near Video Village - and says, "Well, why don't we just have her on the show? It's kind of ridiculous. I mean, she's an actress, she's great, you guys are related, you guys can see each other more often."  He had been writing this storyline that actually could involve AJ.  "Why don't we add her in?"  And I was like, oh my gosh that is amazing.  It worked out perfectly.

AJ:  It was pretty cool actually!

I heard that this was the only role on Hellcats that was created with a specific person in mind.  AJ, how does it feel to have a role that was technically created for you?

AJ:  When I heard Kevin say that, I was like "WOW!"  I was so honored.  He didn't know who was going to be cast in the show while he was writing it.  And for me, he already knew me very well being Aly's sister, and he already knew my work.  He really created Deidre for me, which was really cool.  When a writer is that talented and writes a character for you, it's just so exciting as an actress because it's even more fun to play.  Kevin and I have had great conversations about who Deidre is as a person…this young person who is a bit angsty, a bit bitter, but she is getting through life and it's a tough road for her.   She is just a cool character; she is so fun to play!

Deidre is being described as a "mysterious" character, but what can viewers expect to see when they meet her this Tuesday?

AJ:  Mysterious is actually a perfect word.  I think that it's so mysterious that we can't say much (laughs).  There are some really exciting plots.  For me, this show is unpredictable, which is the most exciting part about it.  You are not really going to know (our) connection off the bat.  Aly, her character doesn't know the connection off the bat and my character does.  My character knows a little more in the first episode you see her in, which is kind of exciting, it was really fun to play that.  There is not much we can give away at this moment, but you are going to see a really cool relationship form between Marti and Deidre.  The next episode back is going to be lots of blood, lots of gore and zombies (laughs).

Speaking of Zombies, what was it like to play as those characters?

ALY:  It was really fun because it was so different from what our show usually does.  It was really cool to be able to put on this whole new character that obviously has no relationship to the show.  But the fact that Dan Patch is filming this Zombie horror flick and uses the cheerleading squad as the backdrop to the storyline is just really fun.  And Andy Fickman, our Director, was really able to pull it off in a very cool way.

In the last episode we saw a little bit of a rift forming between Marti and her mother as she begins to discover information about her father.  Will we see that rift continue to grow throughout the rest of the season?

ALY:  I think there are always going to be problems between Marti and her mother. There is a bit of drifting going on with their relationship because of the lies that Wanda has told Marti, but at the end of the day it's her mother.  You are going to be surprised at a big secret that Wanda actually reveals to Marti (about) the past involving her dad.  That is really going to turn Marti's world upside-down.  I think that it brings her and her mom closer together, in a strange way.

Marti and Savannah have had a really close relationship, but recently they have had their ups and downs.  Will we see them reconnect in these back five episodes?

ALY:  You will see them connect again. Throughout this show there's a lot of friendships that grow and then simmer out, and I think that has to do with the drama that is going on around them.  A lot of that is going to kind of happen still throughout the rest of this season.

When we first met Marti in the very first episode of the series, we saw this young, strong and individual character, but when she joints the Hellcats she becomes a little bit of a team player. What are some of the qualities that you've seen change over the course of the season?

ALY:   I love that she is always an individual on the show and that she really has a voice.  She is one of those girls who really finds what she wants to do with her life and goes for it; I like that.  You see this individual girl in the first of the season, like you said, and now she has kind of conformed to the cheerleaders and their lifestyle to be able to be a part of the squad.  In a good way, she conforms.  But she still has her own mind and she still has her own spirit, and that is going to continue throughout the rest of the season.

In an upcoming episode airing May 3rd, the both of you get to perform two songs on the show.  What was it like having the opportunity to cover Bob Dylan's "Mississippi" song?

AJ:  Oh my gosh!

ALY:  We were so stoked.  That was such an amazing song.

AJ:  We love Dylan.

ALY: It is more recent Dylan, a little bit.

AJ:   Aly and I work so well together musically and when it comes to being on set because we have that on-and-off-screen history - it is really obvious. I think for Aly and I, just rehearsing Dylan and hanging out in the trailers getting ready to go on stage and film it was the funnest part.  We love working together and we love Dylan, and I think that song is a classic soulful amazing tune.

ALY:  It was such a very organic setting that you see our characters play that song in.  It doesn't seem like it is forced at all.

AJ:  It's not a "performance" … we're kind of just chilling in the room.  And then we also play an original tune by Dan Berns, who is an amazing singer/songwriter who Kevin discovered and had him write a bunch of songs for the show.  He has had an amazing pull on the show because he has wrote some really cool songs that Kevin has (put on the show).
